Ceres is a dwarf planet beyond the orbit of Mars. Discovered in 1801 by Piazzi, Ceres was originally classified as a planet before being reclassified as an asteroid (or minor planet). In 2006 Ceres was once again reclassified, this time as a dwarf planet.
